  2. Is the criteria to qualify for a 2009 Energy Tax Credit the same as Energy Star?

NO! The Energy Tax Credit criteria are stricter!

Energy Star Rating Energy Tax Credit Rating

  3. What types of Energy Star rated doors and glass does Milliken Millwork carry?

Milliken Millwork carries an extensive selection of steel doors from Jeld-Wen, fiberglass doors from Plastpro (both smooth skin and woodgrain styles) and over 20 series of glass lites for our doors from ODL. Refer to our Steel and Fiberglass Entry Systems Catalog PDF.

The critical energy rating components for the Energy Tax Credit are:

U-Factor Measures the heat transfer through a window, door, or skylight and tells you how well the product insulates. The lower the U-Factor, the greater resistance to heat flow (in and out) and the better its insulation value.
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) Is the fraction of solar radiation admitted through a window, door, or skylight. This tells you how well the product blocks heat caused by the sun. The lower SHGC, the less solar heat it transmits.

The Energy Tax Credits require door units (doors only, doors with glass lites installed, double doors, doors with sidelites, etc.) to be less than or equal to (≤) .30 in both U-Factor and SHGC. Rigid testing is required to receive formal documentation of results from independent agencies. Milliken Millwork test results on ourprehung door units with no glass are as follows:

    Steel and Fiberglass Doors U-FactorSHGC
    Fiberglass Smooth (FS) .16.01
    Fiberglass Grained (FG) .16.01
    Builders Choice Steel (BC) .17.01
    Majestic Steel (MJ) .23.01

The glass lites we install in our doors achieve ratings based on the type of door (above) they are installed in. Milliken Millwork offers the following glass lite options:

Glass- glass ratings vary by the series of door used. Ratings are clarified in #4
